The Jungle Top Ten: Scoring Units   by Patrick Eibel
Now that about three quarters of 40k missions require holding objectives, fielding enough scoring units has become critical when creating an army list.  In general, scoring units are Troop choices, but not all Troop choices are equal.  A good choice will provide tactical support to stave off the enemy, be durable to sustain enemy weapons fire, and/or have some close combat capability to survive the inevitable assault.  So what are the best scoring units you can take?  Letís take a look.

10. Space Marine Bike Squad.  You have to take a Space Marine Captain on a bike (or take Khan, or play Ravenwing) to get them as Troops, but you will have Toughness 5 units with all of the benefits of Space Marines.  The only drawback is that they are pretty expensive.

9. Necron Warriors. Even though 5th Edition nerfed Necrons like a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest, Necron Warriors still rate on this list just because they are Toughness 4 and have Weíll Be Back.

8. Sisters of Battle Squad.  Another oldie but goodie.  Faith Points can make the girls pretty effective, though they canít make up for Toughness 3.

7. Ork Boyz.  You want to create a tar pit? Take 30 Boyz, including a Nob with a klaw, and some big shootas.  Until the boyz get whittled down, they will be Fearless, and they are dirt cheap.

6.  Space Wolf Wolf Guard.  So, you need to invest 270 points in Logan Grimnar, but then all of your Terminators are scoring.  Give them storm shields for a 4+ Invulnerable Save, slap them in a drop pod, and youíll be grabbing objectives in no time.

5. Chaos Bloodletters of Khorne.  Strength 4 Daemons with power weapons can put a damper on just about anybodyís day.

4. Imperial Guard Platoon.  The ability to take up to 14 infantry units (1 Platoon Command Squad, up to 5 Infantry Squads, up to 5 Heavy Weapons Squads, up to 2 Special Weapons Squads, and a Conscript Squad) that can claim objectives, all for only a single Troops slot, is money, Jerry, money.

3. Thousand Sons.  Good shooting weapon? Check.  Good character upgrade? Check.  Good armor save? Check.  Fearless? Check.  Whatís not to like?

2.  Ork Nobs.  There are players who get all gooey about fielding Nobs on Bikes, but Nobs are just as good in a Trukk accompanying the necessary Warboss to count as Troops.  Add a Waaaugh banner, some power klaws and Ďuge choppas, and a Painboss, and you have a unit that gives real fits to your opponent.

1. Tervigon.  Okay, so you need a squad of Termagants to get these as Troops, but getting a Monstrous Creature that creates more Troop choices and makes them all more effective is just ridiculously good.

I am sure there will be a flood of e-mails touting some Troop choice that didnít make this list, and thatís great Ė whatever works.  As always, this is just my opinion at this time (new codices and rules tend to change things), and as always, I will catch you all next time.
