The Forgiven text and model by Tim Nault
Some armies begin with a theme. Some, like Tim's army, have their theme evolve over time. Tim has created a Dark Angel successor chapter that combines elements of the U.S. Special Forces and some other ideas. Here it is, in Tim's words.

Background
The Forgiven came from a Dark Angels Company that had finally hunted down all of the Fallen from its ranks. It was a long and brutal campaign and when it was over, the only Marines left in the Company were grizzled veterans. Azreal told the Company's Grand Master that his group was absolved of its ancient sin, and could, if desired, pursue its own destiny.

The Forgiven set out across the stars, finally coming to rest on a planet just on the outside fringes of the Ultima Segmentum. The planet had once been home to a hive city but now was almost wholly covered in jungle. The planet had no population, and The Forgiven were forced to look elsewhere for their recruits, sending nearly half the newly founded Chapter to search out the local system.

The Marines found nothing in the local space surrounding Vashnam (the newly declared home planet), and decided to venture farther. Eventually they came to the feral world Fernus Prime and recruited the entire population--males and females--to build their new Chapter.

Back on Vashnam, the Forgiven worked with the Catachan 907th Regiment (the notorious Catachan Dogs of War) to develop their jungle-fighting skills. Their training completed, the Forgiven have emerged from Vashnam and patrol the surrounding areas within the Ultima Segmentum.

Philosophy
The Forgiven are a relatively new Chapter and are willing to experiment with ideas that other Chapters would consider unorthodox or heretical. The Forgiven use male and female Marines, prefer to set traps and ambushes, and wear camouflage.

The Forgiven are still in contact with the Dark Angels and retain some characteristics of their parent chapter. For example, the Forgiven recruit from a wide variety of worlds. However, the Forgiven have a more close-combat orientation and wear few Dark Angel insignias: most opponents have no clue that the Forgiven were once Dark Angels.

HQ/Elites/Troops/Fast Attack/Heavy Support
As Codex: Dark Angels. Being a relatively new Chapter, the Forgiven have many Scout Squads and few Tactical Squads. All Forgiven squads are led by a Veteran Sergeant, who was an original founding member and a former Dark Angel. The Forgiven have only one Dreadnought, Xaliphur, and few other vehicles.

Modeling and Painting
The Forgiven specialize in jungle warfare, wearing green and black camouflage with few markings to indicate that they are related to the Dark Angels.

General Tactics
The Forgiven prefer to sneak up on opponents, using terrain for cover, and overwhelm them in assaults. Scout squads (the bulk of the Forgiven's forces) are usually equipped with bolt pistols and close combat weapons, with Veteran Scout Sergeants bearing power weapons.
