Fea Thalionl,
Eldar Corsair
The
current Codex: Eldar describes Prince Yriel and mentions
the Corsairs, but does not go into detail about what his (or any other
Corsair’s) army is like. This Themed Army Idea is my attempt at a template
for an Eldar pirate force: you can use it as is or swap out HQ, other units,
or color schemes. Those who play Dark Eldar will recognize similarities
between them and my Corsair concept.
Background
Unable to
reconcile the passion for adventure within her, Fea Thalionl stepped down
as a princess and set out with several of her most loyal followers for
a life of wandering and plunder. Mistress of a small fleet, Fea Thalionl
has not strayed far from her former Craftworld of Yme-Loc, raiding strongholds
near the Eye of Terror. Striking quickly against outlying, lightly-defended
areas, she and her pirates are not yet considered dangerous enough to divert
significant forces away from the Cadian Gate and other battlegrounds during
the ongoing war between the Imperium and the forces of Abaddon.
Philosophy
Fea is a cunning
tactician who never directly opposes force with force: her Corsairs rely
on speed to strike at the flanks and weak portions of the enemy, retreating
in the face of concentrated fire to strike again where the enemy is not
looking.
HQ
Fea is the
equivalent of an Eldar Autarch, and her armament varies depending on her
mood and the situation. She is assisted by the Farseer Mirthrin, formerly
her chief adviser when she belonged to the royal house of Yme-Loc. Mirthrin
and his Warlocks often use their divination abilities to locate unsuspecting
targets.
Elites
Fea’s Corsairs
include large numbers of Striking Scorpions (a unit of which usually serves
as her bodyguard) and Fire Dragons. Although some Scorpions might infiltrate,
if necessary, most of them (and all Dragons) are mounted in Wave Serpents
so that they can swiftly and safely move about the battlefield. No other
Elite units are found in Fea’s Corsairs.
Troops
The bulk of
Fea’s army is made up of Dire Avengers mounted in Wave Serpents. These
can be supplemented by Guardians on Jetbikes (who may be accompanied by
bike-mounted Warlocks). No other Troop units may be used.
Fast Attack
Shining Spears
lend a formidable assault element, while Vypers provide support fire.
No other Fast Attack units are found in Fea’s Corsairs.
Heavy Support
When overwhelming
firepower is called for, Fea has several Fire Prisms and Falcons in her
army. No other Heavy Support units may be used.
Modeling and Painting
Fea’s army
uses the standard Eldar figures appropriate for each unit. To intimidate
the humans that they prey upon, Fea’s Corsairs eschew the bright hues used
by most Eldar Aspect Warriors, and wear a uniform black, broken only by
the skull and serpent design that is Fea’s emblem.
General Tactics
As mentioned
earlier, Fea’s army is highly mechanized and relies on speed and mobility
to avoid the bulk of the enemy’s firepower: slow or static forces, such
as Walkers or Dark Reapers, are not used. Fea relies on skilled Aspect
Warriors rather than fragile Guardians to decisively win firefights and
melees on the table.
