It is difficult to discuss tactics and strategy for a particular army in 40K without knowing the scenario, size of game, and opponent in the upcoming battle. However, each army has certain advantages that be maximized for tactical success. As Sun Tzu noted in The Art Of War, “The general who thoroughly understands the advantages that accompany variation of tactics knows how to handle his troops.” In game terms, this means that if you know how to use your army in a variety of ways, you will be well prepared for any battle.
The following articles will attempt to discuss, in broad terms, the strengths and weaknesses of each army, some notable items of wargear or special rules, and some different tactics the player could use in any situation. Rather than do every army all at once, a time-consuming endeavor to say the least, we will present different army write ups over time. Tactics
