Generational Conflict:
Introduction and Army Lists
by Kenton Kilgore and Elizabeth Kilgore
I’ve been teaching my daughter Beth
(who’s currently 14) how to play 40K. In the past, we’ve played a number
of practice games, and she’s done so well that we’ve moved to full-blown,
actual games. This is the first “real” game Beth has played, and what better
way to start than by taking on her old man and posting it as a battle report
for the Jungle?
Beth painting up her very
first squad of Space Marines. It brings a tear to me rheumy old eyes...
Space Marines: 996 points
Beth has started her own (as yet-unnamed)
army, but at the time of this game, it needed supplementing to bring it
to the table. I let Beth look through my Fighting Tiger army list and pick
out what she wanted. She really, really likes missile launchers and Land
Speeder Tornadoes, so she made sure to load up on those. She also really
liked the look of my new “Redhead” model in Terminator
armor, so she brought that, too.
-
Raja Khandar Madu.

-
Squad Beta. Sergeant
and three Marines w/ bolters; one Marine w/ missile launcher (85 points)

Beth's army at the time
of this battle consisted of 10 Tactical Marines (generously donated by
#1 Jungle Fangirl
Jennifer
Burdoo), so she supplemented them with Fighting Tigers
Yblis’ Bzrkx: 1000 points
I have several armies, and I asked
Beth which one she would like to fight against. She’s played against my
Necrons before and enjoyed it—no, the "We’ll Be Back"
rule doesn’t bother her—and she asked to take them on again.
-
Centurion Lucifer 1.0.
Necron Lord w/ Staff of Light, Resurrection Orb, and Veil of Darkness (200
points)
-
Unit 2.1. Fifteen
Necron Warriors (270 points)

Centurion Lucifer 1.0 and
some of his many Necron slaves
Setting Up
We played at our house, on a 4'
x 4' table with a moderate amount of jungle-type scenery. We rolled randomly
for mission and came up with “Secure and Control;” because this was Beth’s
first “real” game, we kept it at Alpha level. Because I had set up the
table, I let Beth pick what side she wanted, and we alternated deployment.
She wisely set up all of her units in cover (that’s my kid!), and we took
turns placing loot counters; because of the small size of the table, we
had to fudge how close we deployed the counters. No biggie.
Aided by the Tigers' mascot,
Spot, and wielding a heart-shaped tape measure she dubbed "The Thump-Thump"
(in homage to Captain Jack
Sparrow, her favorite Pirate of the Caribbean), Beth prepared to unleash
girl power
