Generational Conflict:
Battle Summary
by Kenton Kilgore
Beth won the roll to go first, and
the brutality began.
Turn 1
Beth kept most of her troops right
where they were and opened fire with missile launchers. Shiva stomped forward
and Squad Rudra rolled out in their Rhino. The Tornadoes eased forward
and took shots with their weapons. When her turn was over, she had taken
down three Warriors and a Scarab Swarm, and wounded another Swarm. Not
bad!
The battle begins, with
Beth's Marines on the left and allied Fighting Tigers in the center and
right flank
On my turn, one of the Warriors made
his “We’ll Be Back” roll and got to his feet. The Warriors trudged
forward, toward the counters, while, on opposite sides, the Destroyers
and Scarabs zipped forward. The Destroyers unleashed their gauss weapons
at Shiva, destroying the Dreadnought. Take that, kid!
Turn 2
Beth continued to hold her ground
with most of her troops but moved the Tornadoes and the Rhino closer, the
Tactical Marines from Squad Rudra dismounting near a counter. Her fire
dropped two more Warriors, and both stayed down. My Destroyers moved up
to deal with Squad Rudra, killing two Tactical Marines. My Scarabs also
moved forward, intent on charging Tactical Squads Alpha and Beta, but fell
a few inches short of charge range.
Beth doesn't sweat the Necron
advance. Maybe it's because she's seen their abysmal win/loss
record
Turn 3
Tiring of my Destroyers, Beth engaged
them in a 40k-dogfight with her Tornadoes, killing all of them. The Scouts
gunned down the Scarabs and more fire dropped two more Warriors. Ouch!
This kid’s got game!
Responding to this, Lucifer and Unit
2.2 used the Veil of Darkness to teleport to the other side of the board,
to knock the Scouts off the counter they were holding. The bad news was
that Lucifer and Co. deviated away; the good news was that they were in
range and line of sight of the Tornadoes. Firing their weapons, the Necrons
shot down one and then steeled themselves (pun intended, thank you) to
weather the Marines’ return fire.
Lucifer and Company aren't
frightened of Dreadnoughts that get taken out on the first turn
Turn 4
The Scarabs cleared out of their
way, Raja Khandar Madu and Squads Alpha and Beta began to move across the
board towards two counters. Beth’s two remaining Tornadoes moved onto an
objective and combined fire with the Scouts at Unit 2.2, dropping five
Warriors, two of whom stayed down after failing “WBB” rolls on my
turn.
Lucifer and his Warriors
try to take down the remaining two Land Speeder Tornadoes
On my turn, Unit 2.1 moved up in
response to the encroaching “Redhead” and her friends, but no shots were
fired, as my Warriors were not in rapid-fire range. Lucifer fired his Staff
of Light at one Tornado and Unit 2.2 rapid-fired at the other, but neither
Speeder was harmed.
Beth's Marines and the Tigers
seem to have the situation in hand, provided they can get rid of Lucifer
and his Toasters
Turn 5
Khandar Madu and her two squads
continued their advance. Tornadoes and Scouts fired again on Unit 2.2,
bringing down seven Warriors. To Beth’s amazement, six got back up on my
turn. Return fire shook one Tornado, but Lucifer missed the other with
his Staff. At the other end of the board, Unit 2.1 shot and killed a member
of Squad Alpha.
Raja Khandar Madu and Beth's
Marines advance, to find the Necrons waiting for them to get into rapid-fire
range
Turn 6
Squads Alpha moved onto a counter;
Alpha and Beta fired on Unit 2.1, dropping one Warrior (who got back up
on my turn). The Scouts, Squad Rudra, and the functioning Tornado gunned
down three Warriors from Unit 2.2, but two of them got back up after making
“WBB”
rolls.
Necrons push back Space
Marines on foot, but can do nothing to stop the Tactical Squad in the Rhino
Unit 2.1 moved into rapid-fire range
of Squad Alpha, firing 30 shots, of which 23 hit and 9 wounded. The Marines
made seven saves, losing two members and falling back 8". But it was not
enough for the Necrons. At the end of the battle, the Marines held three
counters, and the Toasters had one.
Outcome: Marines win!
