Games Day 2001
What you'll
see here are tables and scenery from Games Day,
Games Workshop's annual convention in Baltimore, Maryland. One of my favorite
things about Games Day is just wandering around the hall checking out the
awesome scenery that the GW staff create. You just haven't played 40K until
you've done it on a table with well-made scenery. I can't explain exactly
why, but good scenery makes the game much better.
Here are some
photos of a few of the more creative and unusual 40K tables at Games Day
2001. Perhaps you'll get some ideas for your own terrain projects.

THAT'S a jungle. My money's on the Catachans.

If
the jungle's too hot for you, chill out on this winter table.
At
Games Day 2001, Games Workshop ran a massive mega-battle called
"The
Hunt for Russ," where Tyranids invaded the Space Wolves' icy home, Fenris.
In
addition to what you see here, the GW staff had models of giant mammoths
and
abominable snow monsters wandering the fields.
Plus
they liberally threw white confetti to represent falling snow.

Speaking
of Tyranids, they had their own table, modeled to
represent
the interior of a huge Bug ship. Check out all the ooogy tentacles,
slime
pits, pods, and other squishy things.
See
those amber-colored orbs protruding out of the purple structures
in
the background of the photo? In each one you can see the
silhouette
of a Nid waiting to hatch. Ewwwwww....
