Who I am (personal and professional info)
meMy name is Kenton Kilgore. I was born in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1966 but have been an American citizen all my life. I have lived in Chicago, Illinois; Phoenix, Arizona; and (since 1979) in the Baltimore-Washington DC area. I am married (since 1988) and have two kids.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland, and a Master's Degree in English Literature from Washington College. I work for the federal government as a telecommunications specialist. In the past, I’ve been a technical writer/editor, a college instructor, and a banker.

Why I started this site
Back in 1990, my friend Patrick Eibel and I tried to start up a gaming fanzine called Vorpal, covering AD&D, 40K, Marvel Super Heroes, and Shadowrun. Vorpal never got off the ground, but the urge to do some kind of gaming publication never left me.

Fast forward to 1998, when I first got on the Internet and immediately began searching for 40K sites. I found lots of them, but most were little more than display cases for people’s armies. While this can be interesting, I did not find it terribly useful.

I set out to make a visitor-centered site where I could pass along what I’ve discovered about 40K, hoping that others can learn from my mistakes and find new ways of looking at, thinking about, and playing the game.

How long I’ve been playing 40K
I started playing in 1987, when the original version of the game (“Rogue Trader”) came to the United States. Inspired by the movie Aliens, I chose Space Marines as my first army. I was an occasional player during the “Rogue Trader” era. When 2nd Edition came along, in 1994, I became an enthusiastic player and remain so to this day.

Writing material for others
Every once in awhile, someone will e-mail me, asking if I can help write up a background story or create a character for their army. Though I’m honored that some people think that highly of my writing skills, I’m afraid I’m just too busy. I usually refer people to The Millenium Gate forum or The Bolter & Chainsword for help and suggestions. The regulars there are friendly, creative, and will be glad to help.

Other 40K armies I’ve had
In addition to my Fighting Tigers, I’ve owned a few others.

Back in the bad old days of “Rogue Trader,” back before GW started coming out with army lists, I built an Eldar/Squat/renegade Space Marine/renegade Imperial Guard “pirate army.” These were the original Ozone Scorpions. After a few years, I sold them to a friend, who then gave them away.

During 2nd Edition, I started a “shooty” Bad Moonz Ork army (led by Nazdreg), but lost interest in it and gave it away. I also had a lot of Allies for my Fighting Tigers.

Currently, I have a Dark Eldar army, the Kabal of the Ozone Scorpions. I also have a Necron army, Yblis' Marauders, and am in the process of building a Tyranid army using Lizardmen figures.

Other games I’ve enjoyed
I got involved with role-playing games in 1982, with Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (First Edition, of course!). I soon became a Dungeon Master and ran campaigns until 1998, when the dreaded Real Life Syndrome overcame me. I heartily resisted the evils of 2nd Edition AD&D and have slowly gotten back into 3rd Edition.

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I also run a Marvel Super Heroes campaign (based on the X-Men) and played some Shadowrun, too. I haven’t played either of those games for at least 12 years, though.
