Fighting Tiger Elites
Fighting Tiger Elite units are more rare than their counterparts in other Space Marine Chapters. Exceptional Tactical, Devastator, Assault, or Scout squad leaders may be promoted out of their units to serve in Veteran Squads. Veterans who continue to distinguish themselves may be promoted to Terminator Squads. Those Terminators who excel will be promoted to the ranks of the tanadars, if they live, or may, if they are struck down, gain the ultimate honor of becoming a Tiger Eternal, a Fighting Tiger Dreadnought.

Tigers of Indra: Tactical Terminators see "Terminator Squad" in Codex: Space Marines
All Tactical Terminators are male. Chosen from the best Veteran Fighting Tigers, these Space Marines continue to dedicate themselves to Indra, captain of the gods. By tradition, Tactical Terminators deploy in 5-strong squads.

Tigers of Indra: Assault Terminators see "Terminator Assault Squad" in Codex: Space Marines
All Assault Terminators are female. Chosen from the best Veteran Fighting Tigers, these Space Marines continue to dedicate themselves to Indra, captain of the gods. By tradition, Assault Terminators deploy in 5-strong squads and always use lightning claws.

Tigers of Indra: Veteran Fighting Tigers
see "Veteran Squad" in Codex: Space Marines
Chosen from the best Tigers of Rudra, Kali, and Agni,  these Space Marines still honor their former deity but dedicate themselves anew to Indra, captain of the gods. Veteran Fighting Tiger squads are the only ones integrated by jatis and sex. Exceptional members of these squads may become Terminators.

These squads emphasize hand-to-hand fighting. Veteran Fighting Tigers use bolt pistols and close combat weapons and lead tactical squads in assaults. By tradition, Veteran Fighting Tigers deploy in either 5- or 10-strong squads and are led by a Veteran Sergeant.

Gray Tigers: Harijan see "Veteran Squad" in Codex: Space Marines
Fighting Tigers are bound by sacred vows and millennia of Vedic tradition. While some small infractions are to be expected and tolerated (particularly during the early part of a Fighting Tiger's service), serious or deliberate violations may result in exile from the Chapter. These disgraced Tigers are deemed harijan,or "untouchable," and knowledge of their existence is limited to the current Rajas and a few trusted advisors.

Gray TigerThe harijan are sent to live alone as best they can on Veda, but before they go, they are supplied with a suit of gray armor (hence the name), a weapon, and a small amount of ammunition. If they ever expect to redeem themselves, they must make up for what they have done (or failed to do) through heroic deeds (see the story The Gray Tiger).

A Fighting Tiger's training in religion and philosophy is strict, and in a century, perhaps only two or three would become harijan. Thus, no more than a handful of Gray Tigers exist at any one time. Nevertheless, sometimes they are drawn together by mystic visions and fight as a unit against the foulest enemies of Veda.

Because of their determination to make amends, Gray Tigers are treated as Space Marine Veterans, but the squad size need not number 5 or 10, as Fighting Tiger squads do, and the Sergeant may not be upgraded to a Veteran. Gray Tigers may not be given a transport.

While a unit of Gray Tigers may appear on the same battlefield as the Fighting Tigers, they do not fight along side them. Fighting Tiger characters may never join a Gray Tiger unit, nor may the Gray Tiger unit use Fighting Tiger Land Raiders or Land Raider Crusaders.

Gray Tigers are rare, so you may use a maximum of one Gray Tiger unit in any Fighting Tiger force, regardless of how many detachments are deployed. With your opponent's permission, the following optional rule may be used.

Harijan: Those few Fighting Tigers who know of the Gray Tigers despise them and consider them expendable. For Victory Point purposes, Gray Tigers are considered as being half value. For example, if a squad of 10 Gray Tigers cost 180 points, they would only be worth 45 Victory Points if half of them were killed and 90 points if all of them were killed.
Tigers Eternal see "Dreadnought" in Codex: Space Marines
Since their disastrous losses against the Warband Bloodcomet, the Fighting Tigers of Veda have many Tigers Eternal to aid them in battle. Indeed, their Founder and first Chapter Master, Maharaja Shiva Nagordarika, was nearly killed by a Bloodthirster and lives on to this day in Dreadnought form, reborn as Shiva the Destroyer.

Tigers of Tvashtri see "Techmarine" in Codex: Space Marines
Fighting Tiger Techmarines are known as Tigers of Tvashtri, the Vedic god of artifice. They maintain the Chapter's arms, armor, and vehicles. Similarly to Fighting Tiger Chaplains, Librarians, and Apothecaries, Tigers of Tvashtri wear the typical tiger stripes, with only the Techmarine's badge (and his standard-issue servo-arm) to distinguish him from other Fighting Tigers.
