Fighting Tiger HQ (Tanadars)
Each Fighting
Tiger Commander, Chaplain and Librarian is referred to as a tanadar,
which, roughly translated into Imperial Gothic, means "officer." To the
Vedic people, however, the term means more than a military rank. The true
tanadar is a warrior/philosopher/poet, wise beyond their years and learned
in many subjects, who is as generous and chivalrous as he or she is fearsome
in battle.
Tanadars are
ardent defenders of the ancient Vedic traditions and are believed to speak
directly to the thousands of Vedic gods, including the all-important patron
deities of the Fighting Tigers:
-
patient Brihaspati,
god of wisdom;
-
stalwart Varuna,
god of oaths;
-
merciful Savitri,
god of healing;
-
clever Tvashtri,
god of artifice;
-
wrathful Rudra,
god of battles;
-
all-seeing Puchan,
god
of guides;
-
fearsome Kali,
the
death-goddess of slaughter;
-
eternal Agni,
god
of fire; and
-
peerless Indra,
who leads the gods against the demons of Chaos.
Fighting Tiger Kshatriya
see
"Commander" in Codex: Space Marines
Each of the
five sabhas in the jatis has one Kshatriya, or captain, to
lead it. A Kshatriya assigns squads to shikars, instructs junior officers
in strategy and tactics, and often heads campaign armies against the Imperium’s
enemies. Kshatriyas are always male for Tigers of Rudra
and Agni, female for Tigers of Kali,
and either sex for Tigers of Indra and
Puchan.

of Varuna Talwar Chakram.
Tiger of Varuna
see
"Chapter Chaplain" in Codex: Space Marines
These warriors serve the Vedic god
of oaths. Tigers of Varuna lead the Fighting Tigers in their devotion to
the Brahman, the Sleeping Emperor whose dreams give shape
and meaning to the universe. Fighting Tiger Chaplains don't wear all black;
instead, they wear markings appropriate to their sabha but include a white,
skull-shaped helmet. Tigers of Varuna may be of either sex.
Tiger of Brihaspati
see
"Chapter Librarian" in Codex: Space Marines
These warriors
serve the Vedic god of wisdom. Tigers of Brihaspati are one of the few
Fighting Tigers to use any sort of Codex Astartes markings, bearing the
horned skull on their right shoulder plates in place of the traditional
stripes. Tigers of Brihaspati may be of either sex.

Left:
Tiger of Brihaspati Zaghnal Maratha
Right: Tiger of Savitri
Singh ("Tiger
Warrior") Squads
see
"Command Squad" and "Terminator Command Squad" in Codex: Space Marines
Apothecaries
are known as Tigers of Savitri (the Vedic god of healing) and each of the
other members of a Command Squad are known as a "singh," or "Tiger Warrior,"
in the Vedic tongue. Singh squads are of the same jatis as their commander.
In place of the traditional stripes on their right shoulder pads, Tigers
of Savitri use the same Codex Astartes markings that Apothecaries of other
Space Marine Chapters use.
“Coincidence?
You believe it was coincidence that we, the Fighting Tigers, were assigned
to the only planet in the universe where the tigers of ancient myth still
live, still run free? Coincidence? Of course not. It was a sign of the
Emperor's favor. How blessed are we!”
Maharaja
Shiva Nagordarika, to Raja Riv Maupa,
shortly
after the discovery of the tigers of Veda
