A Thousand Points
of Light: Witch Hunters
by
Patrick Eibel
There are
a lot of ways you can configure a Witch Hunter army; I've decided to present
a list based around Sisters of Battle. I mean, who doesn't like women with
guns?

Remember, this
list—like all the others in this series—is meant for brand-new players
or for players looking to start a new army. This list is not meant to be
a “killer” list for winning tournaments or trouncing people at the local
gaming shop. Rather, it is a foundation that players can build upon as
they desire.

* Games Workshop
UK still offers the squad and vehicle combo box for 35 pounds, and this
price has been used for the squad cost in pounds. If you cannot find this
kit, the Rhinos would be 15 pounds each and the squad 20 pounds each. If
you can happen to find this kit in the US, it will help to reduce the cost
of the army by a little bit (you won’t pay tax twice).
All
prices are from the Games Workshop
website as of November 2005. Prices may vary, do not include
taxes, and are meant only as a guide.

1000 point list
Take the two
Sisters with storm bolters from the Battle Sister squad boxes, the Sister
with the Imagifer, and two of the Sisters from the blister of three to
form the Celestian Squad. The Imagifer is included in the squad because
it is an easy way to get an individual Sister that is not a leader type
or special weapon. You can always upgrade the squad to actually have a
Imagifer should you decide to expand the army. Add a Sister with a heavy
flamer to each Battle Sister squad to replace the storm-bolter Sister.
The four heavy bolter Sisters, the last Sister with a bolter, and the Sister
Superior will form the Retributor Squad. If at all possible, I would try
and get the Sister Superior that is different than the one that comes in
the squad box for the Retributor squad.

Tactics
You
will start with six points of Faith for your army (two from the Canoness,
one from the Celestians, one each from the Battle Sister squads, and one
from the Retributors), plus you get to use an extra Act of Faith for free
with the Litanies of Faith. In particular, Divine Guidance and Spirit of
the Martyr will be invaluable in keeping your Sisters alive while smiting
the heck out of your opponent. Be aware that the Immolator and Exorcist
are your best options for taking out enemy tanks, and will probably be
targeted as such. Get the most out of them while they are still on the
field.
The Witch Hunter
army is quite expensive to build, as it only has metal miniatures, including
the ten pounds of metal you get with Exorcist (nice pipes!). However, after
seeing the Sisters in action, I can certainly attest to their effectiveness.
Just be sure to loudly say “Repent!” whenever you use your flamers.
