A Thousand Points
of Light: Daemonhunters by
Patrick Eibel
Daemonhunters
are a recent and popular addition to Warhammer 40K. There are all kinds
of ways to configure a Daemonhunter army; this article will focus on a
“pure” Daemonhunter force will lots of Stormtroopers and Grey Knights.
Remember, this
list—like all the others in this series—is meant for brand-new players
or for players looking to start a new army. This list is not meant to be
a “killer” list for winning tournaments or trouncing people at the local
gaming shop. Rather, it is a foundation that players can build upon as
they desire.

1000 point list
I have included
a blister of Stormtrooper special weapons because I like the added armor-piercing
capability of a meltagun. In a perfect world, you could get two meltaguns,
but the plasma gun will suffice. If your opponents do not usually use tanks,
you could just use the grenade launchers that come with the box and save
some money.
I am using
Brother-Captain Stern as my Grand Master for this list just because I like
the model. If you want a unique character, I would suggest looking the
archive range or getting the Space Marine Terminator Captain and adding
Inquisitorial bits (shield, purity seals, etc.).
-
Grey
knight Grand Master (145 points)
-
Stormtrooper
squad Alpha: Veteran w/ power weapon and teleport homer; one w/ flamer;
one w/ special weapon (see note above); seven w/ hellguns (150 points)
-
Chimera
w/ multi laser, heavy bolter in hull (85 points)
-
Stormtrooper
squad Beta: as above (150 points)
-
Rhino
w/ searchlight, smoke launchers, psycannon bolts (64 points)
-
Grey
Knight Squad: Justicar; two Grey Knights w/ incinerators; seven Grey Knights
w/ storm bolters and Nemesis force weapons (259 points)
-
Grey
Knight Dreadnought w/ twin-linked lascannon, missile launcher (145 points)
Total:
998 points
Note: Let the Grey Knight squad use
the Deep Strike option so that they count as Fast Attack.

Tactics
Get your Stormtroopers
into position to bring in your Grey Knights via the teleport homers. A
259-point squad is pretty expensive if it has to walk across the board,
but with the Deep Strike option and comparing them to a Space Marine
Assault Squad that could be over 300 points, it is a bargain. Not to mention
that Grey Knights come with Nemesis force weapons, which totally rock.
Be forewarned, however, that the Dreadnought is your only real anti-vehicle
option, so keep it protected with terrain or other vehicles if you can.
