A Thousand Points
of Light: Blood Angels by
Patrick Eibel
When Codex:
Blood Angels first came out, everyone cried about how “broken”
it was. Subsequent codices such as the Black Templars and Space Wolves
have shown that the Blood Angels are not all that unbalanced after all,
since the Blood Angels do not have “hidden” power weapons. The list presented
here tries to maximize the Blood Angels’ greatest strength, the Death Company,
by providing lots of squads to draw from. The lack of power weapons in
this list will hinder it against other Marine armies, so you may want to
drop a Scout Squad in favor of some Veteran Sergeants with power weapons
(30 points each) for each Tactical Squad.

Remember, this
list—like all the others in this series—is meant for brand-new players
or for players looking to start a new army. This list is not meant to be
a “killer” list for winning tournaments or trouncing people at the local
gaming shop. Rather, it is a foundation that players can build upon as
they desire.

1000 point list
This army
is pretty straightforward to assemble. The only trick is in putting together
the Tactical Squads. Use eight (of the ten) Tactical Marines from the Tactical
box to form the basis for both Tactical Squads. Add a Sergeant figure and
flamer marine to each squad using parts from the Tactical and Blood Claw
boxes.

Assemble the
remaining eight Blood Claws using the generic torsos and bolt pistol and
close combat weapons to form the Death Company. Use the Blood Angels Sergeant
for the Death Company: even if you do not use him as a Veteran Sergeant,
you will want your coolest unit to have the more interesting model. Paint
everything red except for the Chaplain, the Rhino and the Death Company
Marines, which should be painted black.

Blood Angel Tactics
The backbone
of this army is the Death Company and you will want to get them into hand-to-hand
as soon as possible. The Razorbacks will be on vehicle duty and the Baal
on infantry control (9 shots per round is not too shabby). Remember that
your transports have over-charged engines to help get you to the fight
faster. Use your Scouts to help in assaults and the Tactical
Squads in a true tactical role to provide fire support or assault strength
as needed.
